Continued research indicates current United States Senator Jim Risch (R) ID, still only has 1 challenger this year, political newcomer Nels Mitchell (D).

I’ve only read a handful of articles on these 2, but I’m already getting an idea of what kind of race this is going to be.

My very first visit to Mitchell’s campaign website sent a strong message.  Although an article I read about Mitchell indicated he was more or less going for the proverbial underdog image, the very center piece of his home page is a direct attack on Senator Risch.

And I quote…

“For the last five years, Jim Risch has wasted his time in the United States Senate…”

I’m sure from a socialist, big government, nanny state point of view, Risch did exactly that.  I assume that’s why another article I found on the Idaho State Journal website indicated that The National Journal, which I understand to be a weekly magazine, named Risch most conservative Senator for the second year in a row.

I don’t know how most Idahoans feel about attack adds these days, personally I can’t stand them.  Then again in a state that is overwhelmingly Republican, one might assume whatever Democrat base there is, to expect this underdog to have sharp teeth.

I was personally inspired by the labeling of Senator Risch as “Senator No.”  If I didn’t love my own community so much, I’d be tempted to move to Idaho just so I could vote for Senator Risch myself.

The fact is we need “NO” and a lot more of it, in Washington DC.  The federal government should approach spending in a manner that dredges up images of the little orphan Oliver asking, “please sir, may I have some more.”  Unfortunately, all I see is that spoiled 5th grade bully who spends his recess time hanging kindergarteners upside down until they give up their milk money.

If this label is even half way fitting, I say way to go Senator No.  You keep putting that bully back in his place.

Of course I have absolutely no idea how, or even if Senator Risch will even dignify that assertion with a response.  In any case, I’m very excited to see how this race plays out.

I’ll do my best to keep you folks updated.
